Benefits of Recycling

What Are The Benefits Of Biosolids Recycling?

Nutrients
Biosolids contain Nitrogen, mostly in organic form, phosphorus, and trace amounts of potassium. Biosolids also contains micronutrients such as iron, sulfur, calcium, magnesium, and trace elements (I.e., copper and zinc).

Improved Water Quality
Decades of research show that both groundwater and surface water quality improves in the vicinity of mine sites reclaimed using biosolids. This is due to reduced soil erosion, and the neutralizing effect on soils.

Improved Wildlife Habitat
Rejuvenating the soil enhances plant growth and provides food and cover for land and air animals. Once degraded watersheds see an improvement in stream life and the return of native species. Organizations such as Trout Unlimited and Pheasants Forever promote biosolids recycling because of the observed benefits for wildlife.

Recycling
The use of biosolids as a soil amendment recycles a valuable resource back to the soil. We all have a responsibility to reuse, restore and recycle.
